The former minister for Foreign Affairs, Prof Ibrahim Kaduma, is advocating a new system of leadership within CCM, where the Head of State would be relieved of the ruling party duties.
Speaking during the Eighth Mwalimu Nyerere Intellectual Festival at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) organised by Kigoda cha Mwalimu yesterday, Prof Kaduma said there was no justification for the country to continue having a president who is also the chairman of the ruling party.
He told academicians, members of the diplomatic community and the general public who attended the festival that Mwalimu Nyerere became the head of state and the chairman of the ruling party because he was trying to unify the state at that time.
He said that Mwalimu’s intention has already been achieved and the country needed to move on.
